 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms.  Boko Haram kills policeman, two civilians, burns palace in Yobe


Boko Haram insurgents have carried out a series of attacks in Damaturu Local Government Area of Yobe State, resulting in the tragic loss of lives and destruction of property.


The attacks occurred at midnight on Saturday, with gunshots echoing through the village located 17km away from Damaturu, the state capital.


During the onslaught, a mobile policeman and two civilians were killed, while the district head’s palace in Kukareta, situated on the Damaturu-Maiduguri Road, was set ablaze by the assailants.


Eyewitnesses report that the attackers, believed to be Boko Haram insurgents, descended upon homes, looting food items and burning houses.


“We lost three people, including a police mobile officer who died of a gunshot wound during the attack,” recounted a witness.


Major General Dahiru Abdulsalam (rtd), the state security adviser, in a press statement confirmed that suspected Boko Haram terrorists carried out the assault, burnt down the district head of Kukareta’s palace and two patrol vehicles belonging to security personnel.


The incident also targeted an election collation center at Kukareta, resulting in the loss of one police officer and two civilians.


Abdulsalam urged the people of the area to continue supporting the security agencies in their efforts to maintain peace and security in the area.
