 FG reaffirms commitment to North-East inclusion in Agro-Industrial Project amid exclusion claims The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security has dismissed concerns raised by the North-East Caucus of the National Assembly regarding the alleged exclusion of the region from the Federal Government's flagship agricultural initiative the Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) program. The minister of agriculture and food security Sen. Abubakar Kyari made the clarification over the weekend while briefing the media. He noted that the North-East is not only included in the SAPZ program, but that several states from the region have already met the eligibility criteria for the second phase of the project. The response comes on the heels of public criticisms sparked by the recent groundbreaking ceremonies in Kaduna and Cross River states.  Nigeria, World Bank to strengthen bilateral ties ā€“ Edun


The Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun says  Nigeria and the World Bank are working toward strengthening mutually beneficial bilateral relations.

Edun said this when he received  the World Bank Managing Director of Operations, Ms. Anna Bjerde, who was on on a two-day visit to Nigeria.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bjerdeā€™s visit is in furtherance with the bankā€™s engagement with Nigeria on critical aspects of the development agenda.

Edun urged more support for the country, while expressing the hope that the multilateral institution would appreciate the countryā€™s reform efforts.

ā€œThe World Bank has been part of the progress report and we commend all their efforts,ā€ he said.

Earlier, Bjerde said that she was in Nigeria to further the World Bankā€™s engagement on critical aspects of the countryā€™s development agenda

She said that the World Bank had  more than 30 projects in Nigeria, adding that her visit would afford her the opportunity to also take stock of the ongoing projects.

The Minister of Budget and Economic Planning, Sen. Atiku Bagudu expressed appreciation to the World Bank for its continuing support for Nigeria.

Bagudu said that President Bola Tinubuā€™s administration embarked on one of the biggest reforms, adding that the 2024 budget would reduce deficit for the first time in recent years.

He also called for more support from the World Bank.

Also speaking, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr Olayemi Cardoso commended the World Bank for its support to the country over the years.

He said that the World Bankā€™s support was not only in terms of dollars and cents, but also through the huge knowledge, which would be beneficial to the country.

ā€œWe look forward to more collaboration,ā€ Cardoso said.
