 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken.  TROOPS THWART SMUGGLING OF ILLICIT DRUGS, PREMIUM MOTOR SPIRIT



Nigerian Army (NA) Troops in conjunction with a team from the Nigerian Customs Service operating in the 81 Division NA Area of Responsibility demonstrated exceptional vigilance on Saturday, 2nd March 2024, by intercepting two boats carrying items suspected to be drugs. Acting on actionable intelligence, the troops conducted a stealth operation at Ajido in Badagry, Lagos state and successfully uncovered 27 sacks containing the suspected drugs. Regrettably, the suspects managed to evade arrest by jumping into the river upon sighting the troops.


In a separate operation, the troops intercepted smugglers carrying 77 sacks of Petroleum Motor Spirit at Fabre area in Badagry. The 77 sacks of Petroleum Motor Spirit have been handed over to the Nigerian Customs Service, Seme, while the sacks containing suspected drugs have been handed over to the Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Seme Command.


The General Officer Commanding 81 Division Maj Gen MT Usman on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff has commended the troops for their professionalism. He further appealed to all law-abiding citizens in Lagos and Ogun States to continue to support the troops and other security agencies with credible information to combat any criminal activities that may threaten the peace enjoyed in Lagos and Ogun States.
