Abia Governor Alex Otti Announces Probe into Suspended Health Commissioner

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State has confirmed that the suspended Commissioner for Health, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, is under investigation. Addressing the media in Umuahia, Governor Otti stated that a committee has been established to probe the allegations against Dr. Okoronkwo. He emphasized that if she is found guilty, she will face prosecution. Conversely, if exonerated, she will be reinstated to her position.

Previously, it was reported that Governor Otti suspended Abia State's Health Commissioner due to allegations of financial impropriety and mismanagement of funds. This announcement was made during a state executive council meeting held at the Governor’s private residence in Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area.

“The suspension of the Commissioner of Health is based on allegations rooted in suspicion. A committee has been set up, and the results will be forthcoming,” the governor clarified.

In the same briefing, Governor Otti discussed the termination of his former Chief Press Secretary, Kazie Uko, describing it as part of a broader reorganization effort within his administration. He highlighted that no appointment is permanent, signaling potential further changes in his team.

Furthermore, Governor Otti reiterated his commitment to justice and accountability following the recent killing of soldiers at Obikabia Junction. He assured that the state government is actively investigating the incident and receiving updates, with a promise to share more information when appropriate.

“We are dedicated to ensuring the security of our state and will leave no stone unturned in investigating the incident. Operation Crush has been empowered to combat crime across the state,” he stated.

In a significant development for the state's digital future, Governor Otti announced the appointment of a Chief Information Technologist. This role is pivotal to leading Abia’s digital transformation, with plans to introduce broadband technology and enhance internet access across the state. The appointee's name will be disclosed soon.

“This initiative aims to prepare Abia for the future by digitally transforming its economy, boosting technology, and providing unlimited internet access,” the governor explained.

He also emphasized the crucial role of internet access in driving economic growth and outlined plans to extend infrastructural development to all 17 local government areas in the coming months.
