 TROOPS ARREST SUSPECTED KIDNAPPER, RECOVER AK-47 RIFLE ALONG BENIN–SAPELE ROAD Troops of 4 Brigade Nigerian Army, Operation WABAIZIGAN, have arrested a suspected kidnapper and recovered an AK-47 rifle and ammunition during a targeted operation along the Benin–Sapele Road in Ikpoba-Okha LGA of Edo State. The suspect, identified as Olamide Oyeniyi, was arrested on 12 September 2026 at Obaretin Community by troops conducting operations to disrupt criminal activities and safeguard major transportation routes within the area. Items recovered from the suspect include one AK-47 rifle, one magazine and eight rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition. Other items recovered are one Tecno mobile phone, two bags, one torchlight, one music box and assorted charms.  Malawi’s Vice President, Saulos Chilima, Killed in Plane Crash




After an overnight search, rescuers found the wreckage of the military aircraft that had been carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima and nine others.


According to another source:


Malawi Vice President Dr. Saulos Chilima alongside 9 other occupants confirmed dead in a plane crash


Chilima, 51, was aboard a military plane destined Mzuzu from Lilongwe. The plane went off-radar yesterday 10th June 2024 and couldn't be traced thus initiating search operations. The missing plane was found crushed in Chikangawa Forest with all occupants dead


The plane was carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima, former First Lady Shanil Dzimbiri and eight others departed from the capital Lilongwe but air traffic control in Mzuzu had informed the pilots not to try landing and instead to turn around because of bad weather and poor visibility. However Air traffic control lost contact with the aircraft and it disappeared from radar a short time later after take - off.


In a statement on Tuesday 11th June 2024 Colleen Samba, the president's secretary, confirmed the tragic news. Chilima has been vice president for Malawi since 2014.
