Why couples should be sober on wedding days – Akah Nnani

Actor Akah Nnani has shared his thoughts on weddings and marriages, emphasising the importance of a solemn and reflective approach to the wedding day.

He believes that couples should use the day to deeply reflect on their commitment to each other, rather than just celebrating with their families.

Akah Nnani noted that weddings are often viewed as joyful occasions but the reality is that marriage is a lifelong commitment that requires sacrifice and service to one another.

He encouraged couples to re-evaluate their expectations and beliefs about marriage, recognising that it’s a deeper commitment than what appears on the surface.

He said on Toke’s Moments: “One day, when I was talking to my wife, it struck me that all the people who say ‘God when’ throw the biggest parties on their wedding day and dance. But actually, a wedding day is supposed to be a sober day. If we understand what we’re doing and what we’re getting into, it’s meant to be a day of somberness.”

Akah Nnani who said he doesn’t like his wife of five years sometimes, called for a re-evaluation of expectations and beliefs among couples.

“The families can rejoice because one family is gaining a daughter and the other is gaining a son. They can celebrate, but the couple should be sober because they are saying, ‘I am giving up my independence to live my life with this person.’ It’s a commitment to a lifetime of service and love.

“It’s a sober day of reflection, like ‘Wow, I’m giving away my independence.’ If you understand what you’re doing, you shouldn’t be dancing wildly on your wedding day. People are entering marriage with the wrong expectations and belief systems”, he added.
