 UNICEF warns about escalating crisis in eastern Congo, urges global action UNICEF has urged the international community not to remain indifferent to the worsening situation in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), where fighting between government forces and the March 23 Movement (M23) rebel group continues to endanger millions. Spokesperson James Elder emphasized to Anadolu that the crisis will deepen unless addressed through political engagement and financial support. Elder, who recently spent one week in Goma, in the east of that country, described the region as facing a near “disaster” due to the Mpox virus outbreak combined with violence. “UNICEF and partners were rushing to support across the region to ensure it just did not spread further.  One feared dead, seven rescued in Lagos building collapse


A child was feared dead on Wednesday when a building collapsed at 10, Cameroon street in Mushin, Lagos. 

Seven other residents were also reportedly rescued by sympathisers from the rubbles. 

A resident said the building collapsed following heavy downpours in many parts of Lagos. 

She said the Lagos rescue team was yet to respond to emergency calls as of the time of filing this report.

 Newly Constructed 2-Storey Building Collapses In Lagos


A two-storey building has collapsed in Lagos as the state battles torrential rain which has triggered flood in many parts of the state.


The building collapsed at No 12 Cameroun Street off Ewenla in Mushin.


The state emergency management agency (LASEMA), in an update on the incident, said upon arrival of the response team at the scene of the incident, it was discovered that a newly constructed two storey building collapsed.


Seven (7) people, 3 females and 4 males were rescued and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment


The Agency search and rescue team have searched the rubble and can confirmed that there is no victim underneath the collapsed building. The area had been cordoned off.


Operation still on going, said Dr Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA.
