Anambra State House of Assembly has called on Gov. Charles Soludo to direct the Commissioner for Industry and his counterpart in the Ministry of Agriculture to mobilize, acquire and gazette land for an industrial agricultural hub in all the 21 Local Government Areas.

This is to encourage investors, the actualization of think home philosophy and possibly create jobs for the teaming youths.

This was sequel to a motion sponsored by the member representing Ihiala 11 constituency, Hon. Golden Iloh and was unanimously adopted by the House through voice votes put up by the Speaker during plenary on July 30.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze who presided over the plenary described the motion as a way of encouraging the State Government to acquire more land for the interest of the public.

According to him, there are lots of investors that want to come into Anambra including farmers who are looking for land to farm especially those at flood prone areas. Such persons can get land elsewhere through government policies.

Rt. Hon. Udeze urged the various House Committees to encourage commissioners to locate areas where government can acquire land.

Dwelling on the motion, Hon. Golden Iloh expressed the need to move Anambra State from consumption to production to place it at the forefront of emancipating itself from the present economic quagmire the country is facing as well as supporting the country towards national development.

Hon. Iloh who is the House Committee Chairman on Agriculture expressed worry that the few lands, in some Local Government Areas have been seriously trespassed by the community members

He added that unemployment and hunger in the country has worsened the security situation of most states thereby plunging youths into banditry, kidnapping, armed robbery, terrorism and many more into abject poverty.

``We are aware that industrialization and agriculture remain the major fulcrum towards the development and advancement of any given state.

``We are further aware that the high cost of commodities in the state is as a result of low productivity in terms of industrialization and agriculture to meet the demand of Ndi Anambra which has invariably affected the whole country as well as the value of naira against the dollar.

``We are also convinced that the establishment of gazett industrial/agricultural hub in all the LGAs of Anambra State will go a long way to attract indigenous and other investors as well as to create job opportunities for the teaming youths.’’

Those who spoke in support of the motion are, Hon. Ikenna Ofodeme who is the House Majority Leader, Hon. Jude Akpua representing Njikoka 11, Hon. Noble Igwe representing Ogbaru 1, and Hon. Jude Ngobili representing Ihiala 1

Others are, Hon. Tony Muobike representing Aguata 11, Hon. Nkechi Ogbuefi representing Anaocha 1, Hon. Nonso Atuchukwu representing Nnewi South 1, and Hon. Kingsley Udemezue representing Idemili North constiuency.

The Lawmakers who commended the sponsor of the motion frowned that hunger and youth unemployment were the biggest problems currently ravaging the country.

According to them, Gov. Charles Soludo is already doing a lot in trying to make food sufficient to Ndi Anambra.

``Just recently, the governor distributed seedlings to Ndi Anambra,’’ the lawmakers noted.
