 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  How Bandits Killed Church Cleric, One Other, Abducted Eight Persons In Kaduna Community


Gunmen suspected to be bandits have killed a pastor, Peter Shebayan, one other and abducted eight residents in Kaduna State.


The attack occurred at Pastor Shebayan’s mission station in Katul Crossing, within the Fadan Kamantra area of Zangon Kataf Local Government Area, on the night of Sunday, August 11, 2024.


In a related incident, bandits attacked the Ruruma community in Kwassam, Kauru Local Government Area, killing Dr. Ishaya and abducting eight others.


A resident of the area, Benzene Godwin, disclosed that the gunmen raided the community in the early hours of Monday, August 12.


Some of the abducted victims identified as, Dan’iya Barau, Bitrust Dan’iya, Esther Magada, Buba Mu’azu Tanko, Philip, Joshua Cyrus, Bege Ezekiel, and Joffrey Ezekiel.


It was gathered that one of the victims managed to escape and return home.


However, the bandits were said to have stolen several items, including six motorcycles and 25 liters of fuel.


Efforts by SaharaReporters to reach the Kaduna State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Mansir Hassan, for confirmation were unsuccessful.
