 Sahel alliance recalls ambassadors from Algeria after the downing of a Malian drone A military alliance between Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger withdrew their respective ambassadors from Algeria in response to the downing of a Malian drone last week, the group said late Sunday, AP reported. The Alliance of Sahel States, which goes by its French acronym AES, blamed Algeria on social media for the drone’s downing and condemned it as an “irresponsible act” that violated international law. The act was “contrary to historical relations and fraternal relations between the peoples of the AES Confederation and the Algerian people,” the group said. Malian Prime Minister Gen. Abdoulaye Maiga, in a statement on the Malian Foreign Ministry’s social media, denied claims by the Algerian government that the drone had violated Algeria’s airspace by over 2 kilometers (1.2 miles).  Police deny killing truck driver in Abia shootout


The Nigerian Police Force, Abia State Command has denied any involvement in the killing of a civilian, an unidentified truck driver in Aba, Wednesday.


The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Assistant Superintendent of Police, Maureen Chinaka in a statement Thursday afternoon explained, “Regarding the Shooting Incident and Death of a Civilian Around Flyover at Alaoji Area in Aba, the Command Has This to Say:


“From our preliminary investigation, there is no credible evidence to suggest that police officers mistook themselves for members of IPOB and fired at each other.


“What we can confirm is that there was a shooting in that area, which resulted in the death of a civilian. The identity of those responsible for the shooting and their motives are still under investigation.


“However, we encourage anyone with useful information regarding the incident to report at the nearest police station.”


Information has it that the shooting was between police patrol teams from Aba Area Command, Aba and another from Umuahia.


It was alleged that the state command who operated in commercial buses, apparently could not identify each other before opening fire.


While the exchange of firing was on, shop owners around Alaoji motor spare parts and passersby along the Enugu-Aba-Port Harcourt Expressway scampered for safety to avoid gunshots.


However, the truck driver was not lucky during this incident and was shot dead.


It was alleged that an argument ensued after the suspects realised that they were all police officers, who were said to have traded blame while refusing to claim responsibility for the death of the driver.

 Actor Baba Ijesha appeals five-year jail sentence for sexual assault Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, known as Baba Ijesha, has filed an appeal against his conviction for the sexual assault of a minor. He has requested the Court of Appeal, Lagos Division, to overturn the ruling of the Lagos State High Court, which sentenced him to five years in prison. The conviction was handed down by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo (retd.) of the Ikeja Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court on July 14, 2022 to Baba Ijesha. Baba Ijesha through his counsel Kayode Olabiran on Tuesday, told the appeal court that his client was set up and that he acted according to a script that he was invited to act on by his colleague. “The Appellant was set up.
