 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. CRIME BULLETIN: ZARANDA GARI COMMUNITY BLOCKED HIGHWAY, RESULTING IN ONE FATALITY,

CP MM AUWAL INITIATES INVESTIGATION TO UNCOVER THE CIRCUMSTANCES SURROUNDING THE DEATH OF ABUBAKAR YAHAYA


On the 10th of September, 2024, at approximately 9:00 am, the Divisional Police Officer of Toro Division received information from a concerned citizen, reporting a gathering of people at Zaranda village via Toro LGA, Bauchi State, causing a blockage of the highway road. Upon receiving this information, the Command promptly deployed a team of detectives to the scene to assess the situation.


Subsequent interviews with local residents revealed that the blockade of the highway road was a result of the arrest of a charcoal dealer and sporadic firing by members of a quasi-security outfit, specifically the Nigerian Hunters Forestry and Security Service. This incident led to the serious injury of Abubakar Yahaya (35 years old), Hussaini Yunusa (20 years old), and Yayangida Hussaini (16 years old), all from Zaranda Gari village via Toro LGA. They were promptly taken to the Primary HealthCare Center Zaranda Gari, where unfortunately, Abubakar Yahaya succumbed to his injuries. The Command has taken control of the situation to conduct a thorough investigation and apprehend those responsible for this unprofessional conduct.


Furthermore, the Commissioner of Police has instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police In-charge of the Department of Operations to mobilize tactical teams, including the Department of Operation, Rapid Response Squad, Operation Restore Peace, Acpol Toro, and Nabordo Division personnel, to handle the situation professionally, ensuring the road is reopened for commuters and peace is restored in the area. The Command has taken positive steps in this regard. A dedicated team of investigators has been tasked with identifying investigate,prosecute anyone responsible for this regrettable incident, and  will be held accountable in accordance with the law.


The Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command Cp Auwal Musa Muhammad psc, Anipr commend the officers and men of the Command for their selfless dedication to public service and their adept management of crowds during this challenging situation. Additionally, he extends gratitude to the public for their cooperation and collaboration with the Police and other security agencies in Bauchi The public is encouraged to continue working alongside the Police and other law enforcement agencies to maintain the safety and security of the state.
