 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. ENHANCED SECURITY MEASURES IMPLEMENTED AHEAD OF NIGERIA'S 64TH INDEPENDENCE CELEBRATION


The Bauchi State Police Command, under the stewardship of  Commissioner of Police CP Auwal Musa Muhammad, psc, Anipr, has implemented rigorous security measures to ensure a peaceful and secure celebration of Nigeria's 64th Independence Anniversary.


In accordance with the directives of the 22nd Indigenous Inspector General of Police Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD., NPM, CP MM AUWAL convened a crucial meeting at the State Headquarters with Heads of Departments, Area Commanders, Tactical Commanders, and Divisional Police Officers (DPOs). The focus of the meeting was to emphasize the effective deployment of human and tactical resources across the state to maintain law and order, especially in key public spaces.


The CP has instructed all deployed officers to maintain vigilance, professionalism, and courtesy in their interactions with the public. Furthermore, a directive has been issued to crack down on any individuals attempting to disrupt the peace or engage in unlawful activities during the celebration.


CP MM Auwal extends his sincere congratulations to the residents of Bauchi and all Nigerians on this significant occasion, encouraging citizens to reflect on the nation’s progress, honour the efforts of past leaders, and contribute to fostering unity and peaceful coexistence.


The Bauchi State Police Command reaffirms its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property during the Independence celebrations and beyond.
