 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police. Federal Fire Service Announces Promotion of 479 Firemen (Superintendent Cadre)

 

The Federal Fire Service is pleased to announce the promotion of 479 of its dedicated senior officers on 25th September 2024. This promotion recognizes the outstanding efforts and service of these firemen, whose commitment to safeguarding lives and property has been exceptional.

 

In the face of increasing challenges and risks, the promoted officers have continually demonstrated bravery, resilience, and professional excellence in their line of duty. The promotions, which cover various ranks within the Federal Fire Service (23 Deputy Controllers of Fire, 6 Assistant Controllers of Fire, 91 Chief Superintendents of Fire, 158 Superintendents of Fire, 13 Deputy Superintendents of Fire, 96 Assistant Superintendents of Fire I, and 92 Assistant Superintendents of Fire II), aim to further strengthen the nation's capacity for firefighting and emergency response.

 

The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service, Engr. Jaji O. Abdulganiyu MIFire.E MNSE, congratulated the newly promoted officers, stating, “These promotions are a testament to the hard work, dedication, and sacrifice exhibited by these officers. Their roles are pivotal in ensuring the safety of our communities, and this recognition is well deserved.”

 

The Federal Fire Service remains committed to enhancing its workforce and infrastructure to meet the ever-growing demands of fire safety and disaster management across the country. The newly promoted officers are expected to assume their new roles and responsibilities with immediate effect and will continue to receive the support and resources necessary to excel in their duties.
