 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Mother, daughter, 2 others die in their sleep in Enugu


There is fear and apprehension in Amaeze Community, Nsukka Local Government Area of Enugu State, following the tragic death of a yet-to-be-identified woman, her daughter and two others.


The incident which happened on September 1, 2024 has engulfed the whole community in deep mourning even as the cause of the deaths were yet to be ascertained at press time.


It was gathered that the four victims after having their meals last night, went to bed only to die in their sleep.


While confirming the incident, the traditional ruler of the community, HRH, Igwe Felix Ugwu, said that the community was yet to recover from the shock of the incident.


The monarch explained that one of the victims identified as Mama Chijioke Amaeze, had brought her ailing mother into her house and had been taking care of her before the mysterious incident which also claimed her life, that of her mother, her sister and a daughter.


He further said that even though operatives from Nigeria Police Force, Nsukka Police Division had taken the victims to the hospital for autopsy and investigation, the community had resolved to go spiritual to unravel the cause of the incident.


“My community has been restless since this incident happened. We have not witnessed anything like this since the history of this community. We are making efforts to determine what could have led to this tragedy,” the royal father said.
