 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken. Vice-President Kashim Shettima, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Governor Umar Dikko Radda, and Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, were among the dignitaries who attended the funeral service for the mother of former President Umar Musa Yar’Adua.

Vice President Kashim Shettima and Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, were among thousands of dignitaries who attended the funeral prayer for the mother of the fomer senator representing Borno Central, Baba Kaka Bashir Garbai.

 

The prayer was led by the Imam Idaini of Borno, Shettima Mamman Saleh, at the palace of the Shehu of Borno on Tuesday.

 

Late Hajja Zainab Abba Bashir died in the early hours of Tuesday at a hospital in Maiduguri, aged 82.

 

The deceased left behind many children and grandchildren.

 

The traditional rulers led by the Shehu of Borno, Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi comprise the Shehu of Dikwa, Ibrahim Ibn Umar Elkanemi, Waziri of Borno, Mutawali Shettima Bukar, and many council members.

 

Also in attendance were former Governor Ali Modu Sheriff, Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, APC Deputy National Chairman Ali Bukar Dalori, Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, Minister of Agriculture and Food Security Abubakar Kyari, and the Speaker of Borno State House of Assembly, Abdulkarim Lawan.

 

The Secretary to Borno State Government, Alhaji Bukar Tijani, also led members of the Borno executive council.
