 Over 25 million phones stolen in one year – FG The Crime Experience and Security Perception Survey report of the National Bureau of Statistics, a Federal Government agency, shows that Nigeria recorded 25.35 million phone theft cases between May 2023 and April 2024. According to the report, this was the most common type of crime within the period under review. The report read, “The number of crimes experienced by individuals in Nigeria was analysed over a period of time. The results show that theft of phones (25,354,417) was the most common crime experienced by individuals, followed by consumer fraud (12,107,210) and assault (8,453,258). However, hijacking of cars (333,349) was the least crime experienced by individuals within the reference period.” It also noted that most phone theft cases occurred either at home or in a public place, and about 90 per cent of such cases were reported to the police.  Troops Arrest Suspected Kidnappers’ Informant In Taraba


Troops have apprehended a woman suspected of being an informant for kidnappers in Taraba State.


According to Captain Oni Olubodunde, the Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 6 Brigade in Jalingo, the suspect was arrested on September 6, 2024, in Sondi village, located within the Wukari Local Government Area.


The suspect, identified as Miss Markus Grace, is reportedly the girlfriend of a notorious kidnapper known as ‘Chen,’ who has been terrorizing local residents.


Captain Oni further stated that the suspect is currently in custody and undergoing investigation to determine the extent of her involvement in various criminal activities.


The Army spokesman also announced that troops intercepted a Toyota Yaris with the registration number Taraba KLD 652 XA, which was carrying an AK-47 rifle and an AK-47 magazine.


Additionally, two Identity Cards from the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) were recovered from the vehicle.


He explained that while on routine stop-and-search patrol in Bantaje town of the Wukari council on September 5, 2024, the troops flagged down a suspicious blue Toyota Yaris that was traveling from Wukari towards Jalingo.


Captain Oni further noted that the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes when it was stopped.


Upon conducting a thorough search of the abandoned vehicle, the troops discovered the firearms and the NURTW Identity Cards belonging to Isa Ibrahim and Mallam Isa Garin Tukura, both from Gassol Local Government Area.


He confirmed that investigations are ongoing to trace and apprehend the suspect, as well as to ascertain the involvement of the individuals associated with the identity cards.
