A 17-YEAR-OLD IN DELHI REPORTEDLY DIED BY SUICIDE AFTER FAILING TO CLEAR THE NATIONAL JOINT ENTRANCE EXAMINATION. (PHOTO).

A 17-year-old girl in Delhi reportedly died by suicide after failing to clear the national Joint Entrance Examination

(JEE), an exam required for entry into India’s top engineering institutes. The teenager, who was preparing for JEE after completing her 12th grade, left behind a note asking her parents to forgive her for not meeting their expectations, according to police. In the note, she wrote, “Forgive me, I couldn’t do it,” expressing the strain she felt from her academic performance.

The tragic incident occurred in Okhla’s main market on Thursday when police received a call around 11:25 a.m. The girl reportedly jumped from the seventh floor of a building, the police stated. An investigation is now underway, with police citing study-related pressure and expectations as reasons she may have taken this step. Proceedings are ongoing under section 194 BNSS, according to the Delhi Police.

This incident comes only days after another student suicide case in Delhi, where a second-year Master’s student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IT), Delhi, reportedly took his own life.

Police noted that the student, who had visited the lIT hospital earlier that day, was undergoing psychiatric treatment. This recent trend has raised concerns about the intense pressure many students face in competitive academic environments.

Authorities and mental health experts are urging parents, teachers, and institutions to pay closer attention to students’ mental health, particularly as academic pressures rise. Education officials are also being encouraged to provide better support systems for students facing stress related to competitive exams.
