Guinea-Bissau stops vaccine study funded by Trump administration Guinea-Bissau's foreign minister has said his government has stopped a study funded by the Trump administration aiming to evaluate side effects of the life-saving hepatitis B vaccine, including any links to autism. The West African country, one of the region's poorest, has high rates of hepatitis B, and the prospective study had drawn an outcry from scientists and international health bodies because only half the newborns in the trial would get the vaccine at birth. World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus said it was not ethical. Guinea-Bissau last month suspended the trial pending an ethical review.  Grégoire Owona Calls for Punishment Against Spreaders of False News About Paul Biya's Death

Amid rumors circulating on social media and some news outlets about the death of President Paul Biya, the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Grégoire Owona, has urged authorities to take strict action against those spreading such falsehoods.

Grégoire Owona, visibly upset by the claims, expressed his frustration on social media. He stated:

"Those who mislead the public by announcing the death of Cameroon’s Head of State must face serious consequences for such a blatant lie. Since they lack basic human decency, the relevant authorities must act firmly against these impostors, regardless of where they are or where their messages come from. We live in a democracy, but there's a limit to cruelty and hatred."

Owona's reaction came after a persistent rumor, spread by ABS TV, a channel reportedly associated with separatists in support of the imaginary state of Ambazonia, claimed Paul Biya had died. This rumor was further shared by multiple social media pages.

President Biya, who left Cameroon in early September, was last seen attending the China-Africa Economic Forum, which concluded on September 7. Following this, he was reported to have traveled to Switzerland and was expected to attend the 79th UN General Assembly and the Francophonie summit, but he was absent from both events. Some media sources claim the 91-year-old president had surgery and is in critical condition, though no official statement has confirmed or denied this.
