Anti-Tinubu comments: ACF suspends chairman as Afenifere, others back President The Arewa Consultative Forum on Thursday suspended its chairman Mamman Osuman following widespread reactions across the country, after the northern body’s criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s policies, saying it had impoverished the North. The ACF, in a statement, added that the interests of the North would be best represented by northerners. However, Yoruba socio-political Afenifere, Igbo socio-cultural body Ohanaeze Ndigbo and other regional groups backed the President insisting his predecessor Muhammadu Buhari laid the marker for the hardship in the country. In a communiqué issued at the conclusion of the forum’s National Executive Council meeting in Kaduna on Wednesday, the ACF expressed dissatisfaction with the current economic policies, which, according to the forum, worsened conditions in Northern Nigeria.  Grégoire Owona Calls for Punishment Against Spreaders of False News About Paul Biya's Death

Amid rumors circulating on social media and some news outlets about the death of President Paul Biya, the Minister of Labor and Social Security, Grégoire Owona, has urged authorities to take strict action against those spreading such falsehoods.

Grégoire Owona, visibly upset by the claims, expressed his frustration on social media. He stated:

"Those who mislead the public by announcing the death of Cameroon’s Head of State must face serious consequences for such a blatant lie. Since they lack basic human decency, the relevant authorities must act firmly against these impostors, regardless of where they are or where their messages come from. We live in a democracy, but there's a limit to cruelty and hatred."

Owona's reaction came after a persistent rumor, spread by ABS TV, a channel reportedly associated with separatists in support of the imaginary state of Ambazonia, claimed Paul Biya had died. This rumor was further shared by multiple social media pages.

President Biya, who left Cameroon in early September, was last seen attending the China-Africa Economic Forum, which concluded on September 7. Following this, he was reported to have traveled to Switzerland and was expected to attend the 79th UN General Assembly and the Francophonie summit, but he was absent from both events. Some media sources claim the 91-year-old president had surgery and is in critical condition, though no official statement has confirmed or denied this.
