CURBING OPEN DEFECATION: LASG, WATERAID, PRIVATE SECTOR COLLABORATE TO BUILD 350 PUBLIC TOILETS IN LAGOS  The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with WaterAid Plan and private operators, is set to build 350 more public toilets across the state to curb widespread open defecation and maintain hygiene and sanitation.  This is just as the State WaterAid team lead gave a projection that by 2028, the organisation will reach 10 million residents directly and another 17 million indirectly through interventions with basic Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) access. A MAN FROM BHOPAL HAS FILED FOR DIVORCE, CITING HIS WIFE'S EXCESSIVE TALKING AS THE PRIMARY REASON. (PHOTO).

A man from Bhopal has filed for divorce, citing his wifeā€™s excessive talking as the primary reason.

The couple, married for seven years in an arranged alliance, are parents to a three-and-a-half-year-old daughter. The man works at a private firm, while his wife runs a beauty parlour. Initially, their marriage seemed smooth, but the husband and his family grew increasingly annoyed with what they perceived as her constant talking and unsolicited opinions, leading to disputes.

Two years ago, the woman left her in-lawsā€™ house with her daughter, unable to tolerate the growing conflicts. Despite their separation, the husband has refused any reconciliation, insisting on ending the marriage. In contrast, the wife is keen to save the relationship, as she does not want a divorce. Their unresolved differences have left their young daughter caught in the middle, with neither parent willing to take full responsibility for her, considering her an obstacle to potential remarriages.

Shail Awasthi, a counselor at the family court handling the case, expressed concern over the situation. She highlighted that the man remains adamant about the divorce, while the womanā€™s reluctance to separate stems from her desire to keep the family intact. Awasthi lamented the adverse impact on the child, whose well-being is at stake amidst her parentsā€™ conflict and unwillingness to care for her.

Reflecting on the case, Awasthi criticized the patriarchal mindset still prevalent in society. She pointed out that many husbands and families claim to value their wives and daughters-in-law as part of the family but restrict their voices and opinions. Instead, they expect women to silently handle domestic responsibilities and childcare, perpetuating outdated societal norms.
