 UN says 53 Congolese refugees have died in Burundi More than 50 refugees fleeing fighting in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo have died in neighbouring Burundi, the United Nations Refugee Agency told Reuters late on Friday. Of a total 53 deaths recorded, 25 people died due to a cholera outbreak, the agency said, while six others died from anemia and other complications related to malnutrition, it said. The U.N. said it was working with the health ministry and other partners to investigate the cause of the other deaths. More than 100,000 Congolese have sought refuge in Burundi since fighting near the border intensified in early December and rebels seized the town of Uvira, the UNHCR said. Jean Jacques Purusi, governor of South Kivu province where Uvira is located, described the situation in Burundi as "misery" and "a crisis completely forgotten by the international community and media." Actor and dancer Nora Fatehi shared her frightening experience as wildfires ravage Los Angeles. On Instagram, she revealed that she and her team were forced to evacuate after receiving an emergency order. Nora described the chaos, saying, “I’ve never seen anything like this. We got an evacuation order five minutes ago. I quickly packed my stuff and am heading near the airport as I have a flight today. I hope it doesn’t get cancelled.”


Nora expressed concern for the safety of those affected by the fires and called the situation “scary.” Her experience adds to growing accounts of devastation in the area. Other celebrities, including Priyanka Chopra, also took to social media to express their support for victims. Priyanka wrote, “My thoughts are with everyone affected. Stay safe,” alongside a video showing the fires’ severity.


The Pacific Palisades wildfires have destroyed over 1,500 buildings and displaced more than 100,000 residents, including several celebrities like Jamie Lee Curtis, Mandy Moore, and Paris Hilton. At least five people have lost their lives, and firefighters are struggling to control the fast-moving flames, which have been fueled by hurricane-force winds.


On Thursday, a new fire erupted in the Hollywood Hills, threatening landmarks like the Walk of Fame. Evacuation orders were issued for the area as fire crews worked tirelessly to contain the blaze. Los Angeles County Fire Chief Anthony Marrone called the situation overwhelming, with teams battling around the clock to protect lives and property.
