 Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence. Police later said that after reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and digital devices, the investigation had concluded that “the evidential threshold had not been met” and no further action would be taken.  From Almajiri Student to NNPC CEO: Mele Kyari Reflects at 60


Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has reflected on his remarkable journey from being an Almajiri school pupil to leading Africa's largest energy company.


Marking his 60th birthday on Wednesday, Kyari expressed gratitude for his life’s trajectory, attributing his success to divine grace and the opportunities afforded by his country.


In a post shared on X, Kyari, who was born on January 8, 1965, and appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2019, described his life as one filled with challenges and triumphs. He noted his dedication to serving the nation with even greater conviction as he reaches this milestone.


“I am profoundly grateful to my country for allowing me to grow from an Almajiri (Tsangaya) school pupil to become the CEO of Africa’s largest energy company,” he wrote, while also thanking Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting him with significant leadership roles.


Kyari, a veteran of the oil industry with 32 years at NNPC, acknowledged the sacrifices of his family during his career, as well as the support from colleagues, friends, and mentors. He also sought forgiveness from anyone he may have unintentionally wronged.


Reflecting on his life, Kyari said, “Walking through good and bad times, travails and triumphs, pains and happiness, fails and successes… only the sufficiency of Allah will explain.”


He reaffirmed his commitment to national service and expressed hope for eternal recompense for his efforts to serve the common good.
