 Russia launches massive drone and missile barrage on Ukraine, killing at least 18 civilians and striking Kyiv and multiple cities  Russia carried out a large-scale overnight assault on Ukraine, launching hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles that killed at least 18 civilians and wounded more than 100 others across multiple cities, officials said Tuesday. The strikes hit Kyiv, Dnipro and other regions, with emergency crews working through destroyed residential buildings where some victims were trapped under rubble. In Dnipro, rescuers recovered the bodies of a 3-year-old child and a mother and her 8-year-old son, while officials reported 12 deaths in the city and six in Kyiv. The bombardment stretched from night into daylight, with explosions reported across wide areas of the country.  From Almajiri Student to NNPC CEO: Mele Kyari Reflects at 60


Mele Kyari, the Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), has reflected on his remarkable journey from being an Almajiri school pupil to leading Africa's largest energy company.


Marking his 60th birthday on Wednesday, Kyari expressed gratitude for his life’s trajectory, attributing his success to divine grace and the opportunities afforded by his country.


In a post shared on X, Kyari, who was born on January 8, 1965, and appointed by former President Muhammadu Buhari in July 2019, described his life as one filled with challenges and triumphs. He noted his dedication to serving the nation with even greater conviction as he reaches this milestone.


“I am profoundly grateful to my country for allowing me to grow from an Almajiri (Tsangaya) school pupil to become the CEO of Africa’s largest energy company,” he wrote, while also thanking Presidents Muhammadu Buhari and Bola Ahmed Tinubu for entrusting him with significant leadership roles.


Kyari, a veteran of the oil industry with 32 years at NNPC, acknowledged the sacrifices of his family during his career, as well as the support from colleagues, friends, and mentors. He also sought forgiveness from anyone he may have unintentionally wronged.


Reflecting on his life, Kyari said, “Walking through good and bad times, travails and triumphs, pains and happiness, fails and successes… only the sufficiency of Allah will explain.”


He reaffirmed his commitment to national service and expressed hope for eternal recompense for his efforts to serve the common good.
