Police Dismiss Two Senior Officers, Demote Six Others Over Corruption
The Police Service Commission (PSC) has dismissed two Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASP) for misconduct, dishonesty, corruption, sabotage, and actions deemed unbecoming of public officers.
According to a statement by PSC spokesperson Ikechukwu Ani, six other officers faced rank reductions for related offences, including two Superintendents demoted to Deputy Superintendents, one Deputy Superintendent reduced to Assistant Superintendent, and three Assistant Superintendents demoted to Inspectors.
The actions were part of the PSC’s deliberations during its second plenary meeting held at its headquarters in Jabi, Abuja.
Additionally, the Commission issued severe reprimands to ten senior officers for offences such as unauthorized disclosure of official secrets, dishonesty, and sabotage. Nine other officers received reprimands, while a Deputy Commissioner of Police was exonerated. One Assistant Superintendent was issued a letter of warning.
The PSC also announced several police promotions:
Eleven Commissioners of Police promoted to Assistant Inspectors General.
Sixteen Deputy Commissioners elevated to Commissioners.
Twenty-one Assistant Commissioners promoted to Deputy Commissioners.
Fifty-seven Chief Superintendents advanced to Assistant Commissioners.
1,348 Superintendents promoted to Chief Superintendents, including notable officers like Obi-Ejoh Nnamdi Patrick of Kaduna Command and Milicent Amadi of Ebonyi State Command.
876 Deputy Superintendents elevated to Superintendents, including Enugu Command’s Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe.
Chairman of the Commission, retired DIG Hashimu Argungu, reiterated the PSC's commitment to maintaining discipline within the Nigeria Police Force, ensuring officers adhere to their constitutional duty of enforcing laws and protecting lives and property.
Argungu also emphasized prioritizing Pending Disciplinary Matters (PDM) to prevent undue stagnation of officers’ careers.
The decisions have been communicated to the Inspector General of Police for implementation via a letter signed by the Commission’s Secretary, Chief Onyemuche Nnamani.
