Wike Revokes PDP National Secretariat Land in Abuja The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has revoked the land allocated to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for its national secretariat in Abuja. In a revocation notice dated March 13, 2025, and signed by the Director of Land Administration, Chijioke Nwankwoeze, Wike cited the party’s failure to pay annual ground rents for 20 years—from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025—despite multiple reminders through national newspapers and electronic media. The letter stated that the revocation was carried out under the powers conferred on the minister by the Land Use Act No. 6 of 1978. It also referenced Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Act, which allows for land repossession due to non-compliance with occupancy conditions. The FCT administration will now take immediate possession of the property until all outstanding payments are settled.

Reps Criticize Customs, Immigration Chiefs for Snubbing Investigative Hearing

The House of Representatives Committee on Customs and Excise expressed disappointment on Monday over the absence of key government agency heads at an investigative hearing.

Lawmakers cited Section 88 of the Constitution, which empowers parliament to summon individuals to provide explanations, to criticize the non-attendance.

The hearing focused on the concession of the e-Customs project to the Trade Modernisation Project (TMP) and the role of Webb Fontaine in the e-Customs framework. The session also addressed the modernization of Nigeria’s Customs Service and the need to employ advanced technology for border security and migration management.

Invitations had been extended to the Minister of Interior, the Comptroller General of Customs, the Comptroller General of the Nigeria Immigration Service, and other stakeholders. However, while Minister Olubunmi Tunji Ojo was reportedly abroad, no explanation was provided for the absence of the Customs and Immigration heads.

Committee member Olumide Osoba (APC, Ogun) emphasized that only the Chief Executives of the agencies are mandated to appear before parliament, adding that their absence rendered the hearing ineffective.

Awaji-Inombek Abiante (PDP, Rivers), another member, described the no-show as a disrespect to parliament, suggesting that continued non-compliance could warrant recommending their removal from office.

Committee Chair Leke Abejide (ADC, Kogi) stressed the significance of the hearing, noting it pertained to improving government revenue and enhancing national security. He announced the session would be rescheduled, likely after the national budget’s passage, ensuring the availability of the Chief Executives for questioning.

The investigation aims to examine the concession of Customs operations to TMP, assess Webb Fontaine’s role in managing the system, and evaluate the selection process for TMP, including their contributions to introducing modern scanners for faster and more efficient goods clearance.
