CURBING OPEN DEFECATION: LASG, WATERAID, PRIVATE SECTOR COLLABORATE TO BUILD 350 PUBLIC TOILETS IN LAGOS  The Lagos State Government, in collaboration with WaterAid Plan and private operators, is set to build 350 more public toilets across the state to curb widespread open defecation and maintain hygiene and sanitation.  This is just as the State WaterAid team lead gave a projection that by 2028, the organisation will reach 10 million residents directly and another 17 million indirectly through interventions with basic Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) access. Speaking at a roundtable over the weekend, the Special Adviser on Environment, Engr. Olakunle Rotimi-Akodu said work has started on some of the toilets including identifying the locations for them. He stated that the State government will adopt the three-way approach in tackling the issue of open defecation, which is to put infrastructure in place, engage in massive advocacy and lastly, undertake an enforcement d...

INVESTIGATING MY FATHER'S GOVT ISN'T A BAD THING IF DONE WITH CLEAR INTENTIONS- BELLO EL-RUFAI. (PHOTO).

Investigating My Fatherā€™s Government Isnā€™t A Bad Thing If Done With Clear Intentions - Bello El-Rufai

Bello El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has stated that investigating his fatherā€™s administration by Governor Uba Saniā€™s government is not a bad thing, as long as it is done with clear intentions and not to humiliate anyone out of perceived acrimony.

Speaking on BBC Hausa, Bello, who represents Kaduna North in the House of Representatives, expressed his displeasure over the rift between his father and Governor Sani but noted that he is not in a position to reconcile them.

He emphasized the importance of fairness in governance, warning against politically motivated investigations.

ā€œIt is not a bad thing to investigate, but it should be done with clear intention and not to humiliate anyone or because someone has offended you. But if you are doing it for selfish reasons, Allah will judge. Allah will forgive your frailties, but will not overlook the harm you inflict on someone,ā€ he said.

Bello attributed the fallout between his father and Governor Sani to the natural ups and downs of life, likening it to friendships and marriages that sometimes break. However, he stressed the importance of maintaining relationships despite disagreements.

ā€œMarriages sometimes break, friends can cut ties. But it is important to maintain and preserve the ties, no matter what,ā€ he noted.

Although he claimed not to be aware of the exact cause of the fallout, Bello doubted that either man harbored deep grudges.

ā€œNone of them told me anything about the rift. I only got to understand that things are no longer as before, and the issue is being overly exaggerated,ā€ he said.

Expressing his wish for peace, Bello stated, ā€œItā€™s unsettling. I wouldnā€™t love to see even my enemies picking a fight with each other. I love peace.ā€

For those urging him to intervene in the dispute, Bello clarified that his primary focus remains serving his constituents.

ā€œIt is not my job. Mine is to focus on delivering on my mandate to the good people of Kaduna North. I love peace and fidelity. But for me, if I were to join issues with anyone, Iā€™d rather approach it not publicly,ā€ he said.

He also praised his fatherā€™s political acumen, saying, ā€œPolitically speaking, Mallam Nasiru has no equal. He is only concentrating on his work. Heā€™s a father, heā€™s my father. It is surprising that some people are waiting for me to say something about Governor Uba.ā€
