A small plane crashed on a major avenue in São Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, killing two people before colliding with a bus and exploding, authorities confirmed.
The King Air F90 aircraft had just taken off from Campo de Marte Airport when it skidded hundreds of meters along the road before impact. Firefighter chief Ronaldo Melo stated it was unclear whether the pilot was attempting an emergency landing.
The pilot and sole passenger onboard were killed, while six bus passengers sustained injuries but managed to escape before the explosion.
Local television footage showed thick smoke plumes, but firefighters quickly extinguished the flames. Investigators are examining the scene and interviewing witnesses to determine the cause of the crash.
