The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for private candidates, with 2,577 results withheld due to allegations of examination malpractice.
According to WAEC's Acting Head of Public Affairs, Moyosola Adesina, the examination was conducted in two modes: paper and pen, and a computer-based hybrid mode, for the first time. A total of 68,342 candidates registered for the examination, representing a 20% decrease compared to 2023. However, 65,023 candidates sat for the exam across 5,067 centers nationwide.
The results show that 43,923 candidates (67.55%) obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, with or without English Language and Mathematics. Additionally, 34,878 candidates (53.64%) obtained credit and above in at least five subjects, including English Language and Mathematics.
WAEC noted a significant improvement in the pass rate, with a 9.35% increase in the number of candidates who obtained five credits, including English and Mathematics, compared to 2022 and 2023.
Candidates whose results were withheld are advised to visit the WAEC Notice of Examination Malpractice Portal to make representations. WAEC assured that efforts are underway to complete the processing of pending results as soon as possible.
