16 Burnt to Death, Three Injured in Ogun Road Accident

At least 16 people were burnt to death, and three others sustained severe injuries in a lone accident on Tuesday at Buhari Estate along the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway, Ogun State.

The crash involved a white Mazda bus (KJA 949 YJ) carrying 21 passengers when a fire outbreak led to an explosion, reportedly caused by a filled gas cylinder inside the vehicle.

According to Florence Okpe, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the victims were burnt beyond recognition, making it difficult to determine their gender.

FRSC operatives from the Abeokuta Sector Command carried out the rescue operation, confirming that 16 people died, three were injured, and two escaped unharmed. The injured victims were taken to the Federal Medical Centre, Idi Aba, Abeokuta, while efforts were underway to evacuate the bodies.

Sector Commander Akinwumi Fasakin sympathized with the families of the deceased and cautioned against transporting highly flammable items in passenger vehicles, stressing the importance of safety precautions while traveling.
