‘Friend Of A Thief Is A Thief’, Defence Minister Warns Terrorist Sponsors The Minister of Defence, General Christopher Musa (rtd), has cautioned Nigerians against aiding terrorists, insurgents, bandits, or other criminal elements, stressing that anyone who supports criminal activities will face the full weight of the law. General Musa made the warning on Saturday while speaking as the Special Guest of Honour at the Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day 2026 Golf Tournament held at the TYB Golf Resort and Country Club, Yar’Adua Barracks, Abuja. He urged citizens to continue supporting the Armed Forces and other security agencies, noting that the Federal Government has given them a clear mandate to deal decisively with all threats to national security. “I call on all Nigerians to stand with the Armed Forces and security agencies in the quest for peace,” Musa said.  “Those who continue to support bandits, insurgents, terrorists, or criminals must desist immediately. NYSC MEMBERS EXPRESS OUTRAGE OVER UNPAID N77,000 ALLOWANCE.(PHOTO).

Members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) are fuming over the Federal Government's failure to implement the payment of the increased monthly allowance of N77,000. Despite the government's approval of the allowance increase from N33,000 to N77,000 in July 2024, corps members are yet to receive the new amount.

The Director-General of the NYSC, Brig. Gen. Yushau Ahmed, had attributed the delay to the non-release of funds. However, corps members are growing increasingly frustrated with the government's broken promises. Many reported receiving only N33,000 for their February allowance, sparking widespread disappointment and anger.

A corps member serving in Abia State, who spoke on condition of anonymity, lamented the insincerity of the Federal Government regarding the payment of the N77,000 allowance. "The N33,000 is not enough for us. We have to handle accommodation and feeding ourselves, and the economic situation of the country is not new to anybody," she said.

Other corps members serving in Osun and Lagos expressed similar dissatisfaction, citing the insufficient allowance and the government's unfulfilled promises. "I don't know how they expect us to survive on N33,000 when there is so much hardship," said a corps member serving in Lagos.

The NYSC Director of Communication, Carol Embu, was unreachable for comment, but a senior NYSC official confirmed that the scheme had yet to commence payment of the N77,000 allowance.
