Man brutalises his pregnant wife in Anambra  In another case of domestic violence, a pregnant woman was brutally beaten by her husband in Ichi, Ekwusigo Local Government Area of Anambra State. The mother of three identified as Chinelo Francis, from Ebonyi State, said trouble began when she requested money from her husband, Peter, to prepare food.  According to the young woman, she had already bought vegetable with the profit she made from her shop. Peter, also from Ebonyi, claimed he didn’t make money that day and took the children home.  He returned to her shop at around 8:00 PM and insisted she close up and come home with him.  She refused, explaining that the time was when she typically made most of her sales.  Later, she closed up her shop, went home at 9:30 PM, prepared the children for bed, and retired.  RAMADAN: SANWO-OLU PREACHES SACRIFICE, PEACE, HARMONY

•Urges Muslims, Christians to be compassionate during fasting season

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has extended his warm felicitations to all Muslim faithful as they commence the holy month of Ramadan on Saturday.

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who described Ramadan as a sacred month and a time for deep reflection, renewed faith, and acts of kindness, urged Nigerians, particularly Lagos residents, to be compassionate and generous to one another during the fasting season.

The Governor said the commencement of the Muslim fasting season, which started on March 1, coinciding with the first day of a new month, and Christians’ Lenten season, which starts from Wednesday, March 5, is a double coincidence and therefore urged people to live in peace and harmony.

He said: "Ramadan Kareem to all our Muslim brothers and sisters. This sacred month is a time for deep reflection, renewed faith, and acts of kindness. May your fasting and prayers bring you peace, prosperity, and abundant blessings.

"As we embrace the values of compassion, unity, and generosity, let us uplift one another and extend love to those in need. Lagos is a home for all, and in this season of devotion, we pray for continued progress and harmony in our state and beyond."

Governor Sanwo-Olu, who was the Chief Host at the Special Ramadan Prayer held at the Lagos House Mosque Ground, Ikeja, on Friday evening, urged Lagosians to ensure that "the period of the season reflects in our relationship among ourselves."

He said: "Ramadan is a period of holiness. It is a period in which people need to admonish and encourage themselves in their faith. It is a period where people are in constant conversation with God.

"As a people, we need to continue to ensure that we live in the peace and harmony that Lagos is known for. This is a time that we all need to come together in prayers and supplications. It is a time for us to do the right thing."

Governor Sanwo-Olu also noted that "coincidentally, March 1 is the first of a new month, and Christian faithful will also start their fasting next week Wednesday (March 5). So, we all need to live in peace and harmony.

"Let the period of the season reflect in our relationship among ourselves. Let the essence of the season be what holds us together as a people by doing our very best at all times."
