 Four people have died after a car was swept away at an overflowing bridge in the Makotopong River near Sebayeng. Police recovered the bodies after a blue Renault Kwid carrying five occupants was pulled into the river during heavy water flow on Sunday morning, 8 March 2026. One passenger escaped from the vehicle and alerted police and emergency services. Police say the car was travelling along the Madiga–Makotopong gravel road when it overturned at the flooded bridge and was dragged into the river. The Provincial Search and Rescue team recovered the first body on Sunday. The victim was identified as Lebapa Petrus Mochitele, 27, from Madiga Village. EMS personnel declared him dead at the scene. Search operations resumed on Monday with the SAPS Water Wing Unit, EMS Search and Rescue, the Fire and Rescue Department, and an EMS helicopter.  Arrest of Drug Dealers


On 27th April 2025, at about 2200 hours, the Command Monitoring Unit, led by CSP Abdulrazak Pada, conducted a strategic operation in response to valuable intelligence on drug activities. This initiative focused on disrupting drug trafficking in Unguwar Tudun Wadan Dan'iya, also known as Bayan Gari, within the Metropolitan area of Bauchi.


During this operation, a comprehensive search was performed on several local shops, leading to the apprehension of the following individuals:  

1. Adamu Muhammed, male, 35 years  

2. Mrs. Okwudili Chikezic, female, 50 years  

3. Sunday Anaco, male, 25 years  

4. Miss Maryam Ahmed, female, 20 years (all residents of the Bayan Gari area of Bauchi)  

5. Tijjani Adamu, male, 20 years old, from Miri, Bauchi LGA.


The detained individuals were discovered with a notable quantity of prohibited substances, which included:  

1. Thirty (30) sachets of Tramadol tablets  

2. Twenty-two (22) bottles of assorted ICE syrups  

3. Three (3) Penta injections  

4. Ten (10) sachets of Diazepam tablets  

5. Five (5) ICE bunkers.


During questioning, the defendants acknowledged their roles in drug trafficking and expressed their willingness to cooperate with law enforcement to facilitate further recoveries.


The Commissioner of Police Bauchi State Command CP Sani-Omolori Aliyu psc(+)mni commended the officers for their commitment to community safety and effectiveness during this operation. He has mandated a thorough investigation to ensure accountability and justice for the individuals involved. Following this process, the defendants will be officially profiled and charged to court to address the charges against them.


The command encourages community engagement, urging parents, guardians, and influential leaders to advise their wards and protégés against involvement in illicit activities. By working together, we can protect the peace that our communities enjoy and promote awareness about the profound health implications associated with the use of illegal substances.
