 NUT Protest : Wike Warns Against Politicising Insecurity The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned against politicising insecurity amid protests by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, FCT wing, over the killing and abduction of school staff and children in Oyo State. Teachers stormed the FCTA Secretariat in Abuja to condemn the killing of Michael Oyedokun and to demand the release of abducted pupils and teachers from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area. The FCT minister addressed the protesters on Tuesday, saying the federal government is on its toes working to secure the rescue of the schoolchildren and their teachers. Wike urged protesters to avoid turning the tragedy into a political issue and to give security efforts time to produce results.  Nigerians should  Identify with Anti-corruption Fight- NUJ


The Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ,  Kaduna State Chapter has urged Nigerians to ensure greater successes of the anti-corruption fight by identifying with the fight and owning it. The call was made by its  Chairman, Abdulgafar Alabelewe when the Acting Director, Kaduna Zonal Directorate of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC,  Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE1 Bawa Usman Kaltungo,  paid a familiarization visit to the Union’s chapter.


“The fight against corruption must be owned and fought by everyone to ensure its success because corruption affects everyone,” he said.  Alabelewe noted that the media was critical in the anti-corruption fight and assured the EFCC of the support of the NUJ in the state. “Our doors are always open to the EFCC whenever the need arises because the media is key in the dissemination of information to the general public,” he said.


While appreciating the efforts of journalists in the state in the anti-corruption fight, Kaltungo advised them not to relent in ensuring that professionalism dictated the conduct of their affairs.


 


In a similar development, the Acting Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, Kaduna, DCC Idris Mohammed Lawal has expressed joy at the collaboration and synergy between the Corps and the EFCC in the state and advised that all hands must be on deck for the enthronement of a corruption-free and all- round better Nigerian society. He disclosed this when Kaltungo led a delegation of EFCC officers of the Kaduna Zonal Directorate on a familiarization visit to his office.


 


Lawal, while appreciating the cordial relationship between the two federal government agencies in the state noted that “when we collectively come together, we would fight and destroy the menace of corruption in the society.”.
