 STATEHOUSE PRESS STATEMENT PRESIDENT TINUBU'S MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE TO CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE AND HER FAMILY   With a deep sense of grief, I condole with Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, and the entire family on the passing of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi.   As a parent myself who has suffered the loss of a loved one, no grief is as devastating as losing a child.   I empathise with the family at this difficult time, and I mourn this sad loss with them.   Ms Adichie is a literary icon who has brought joy and light to many homes globally, and I pray she and her family find strength in the Almighty in this trying hour.   My prayers are with the family.   Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria January 8, 2026

 Rivers JSC Refutes Retired Magistrate’s Claim of Resigning Over Emergency Rule


The Rivers State Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has debunked claims by retired Chief Magistrate Ejike George that he voluntarily resigned in protest of the state’s emergency rule, clarifying that he was compulsorily retired for disciplinary reasons.


In a statement titled “Disclaimer” issued on Tuesday, April 14, 2025, in Port Harcourt, JSC Acting Secretary Blessing Vic-Jumbo said George was retired on February 10, 2025, due to a prolonged absence from duty without leave from August 25, 2023, to December 2024. The statement addressed a viral letter dated April 11, 2025, in which George claimed his resignation was prompted by the appointment of a “quasi-military” administration following the declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State.


Vic-Jumbo explained that George faced a disciplinary panel, which recommended his retirement after finding him culpable. The JSC offered him the chance to retire voluntarily within a specified period, but he failed to comply, leading to his compulsory retirement. “This development has no connection to the current political situation in the state,” the statement emphasized.


The JSC described George’s attempt to link his exit to the emergency rule as a “contrived falsehood” intended to mislead the public and gain undue sympathy. It urged the public to disregard his claims and be guided by the facts.


The controversy follows President Bola Tinubu’s declaration of a six-month state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, amid a political crisis involving Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the State House of Assembly.
