Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said officers responded on April 9 to a report of sexual assault at an address in Croydon and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of the offence.  Sexual harassment allegation: Akpabio, Senate dodging – Ezekwesili

Former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of avoiding opportunities that could clear him of the sexual harassment allegations made against him by suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Ezekwesili stated that Akpabio and the Senate have consistently denied Natasha her right to a fair hearing and an unbiased investigation.

The suspended Senator from Kogi Central has alleged that Akpabio sexually harassed her, claiming that he withheld certain privileges after she rejected his advances, even in front of her husband.

Ezekwesili expressed her confusion over why Akpabio is hindering every chance for an impartial Senate inquiry into the allegations against him.

In a post on X, she recalled a quote from Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan: “This injustice shall not be sustained.” Ezekwesili agreed, stating that societies that allow injustice to persist often suffer from low economic growth, severe poverty, and widespread inequality. She urged that the injustice faced by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan should not continue.

She questioned the Senate and Akpabio about their reasons for denying their brave colleague the right to a fair hearing and an impartial investigation into her sexual harassment complaint against the Senate President. She also asked why Akpabio is obstructing opportunities for an unbiased Senate inquiry and avoiding chances to prove his innocence regarding the serious allegations made by his female colleague.

Ezekwesili criticized Akpabio's colleagues in the Senate for supporting such obstruction, which she believes violates the same Senate rules they used to illegally suspend Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

She emphasized that the Senate cannot simply move on from this case without addressing the issues of accountability, transparency, and due process regarding what she described as a significant abuse of power by a high-ranking public official. She assured that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is not alone in this fight.
