Romanian court hands US rapper Wiz Khalifa nine-month sentence for drug possession  An American rapper has been sentenced to nine months in prison by a Romanian court more than a year after a high-profile incident at a summer music festival along the country’s Black Sea coast. Wiz Khalifa, whose real name is Cameron Jibril Thomaz, was convicted Thursday of illegal drug possession stemming from his appearance at the Beach, Please! Festival in Costinesti in July 2024. Authorities said the artist was stopped by police after allegedly smoking cannabis on stage during his performance and was found to be carrying more than 18 grams of the drug. Prosecutors argued that part of the substance was consumed publicly while he was performing, an act that drew widespread attention at the time. The ruling overturned a lighter penalty imposed earlier this year, when a lower court issued Khalifa a criminal fine of 3,600 lei, roughly $830.  Sexual harassment allegation: Akpabio, Senate dodging – Ezekwesili

Former Education Minister Oby Ezekwesili has accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of avoiding opportunities that could clear him of the sexual harassment allegations made against him by suspended Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.

Ezekwesili stated that Akpabio and the Senate have consistently denied Natasha her right to a fair hearing and an unbiased investigation.

The suspended Senator from Kogi Central has alleged that Akpabio sexually harassed her, claiming that he withheld certain privileges after she rejected his advances, even in front of her husband.

Ezekwesili expressed her confusion over why Akpabio is hindering every chance for an impartial Senate inquiry into the allegations against him.

In a post on X, she recalled a quote from Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan: “This injustice shall not be sustained.” Ezekwesili agreed, stating that societies that allow injustice to persist often suffer from low economic growth, severe poverty, and widespread inequality. She urged that the injustice faced by Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan should not continue.

She questioned the Senate and Akpabio about their reasons for denying their brave colleague the right to a fair hearing and an impartial investigation into her sexual harassment complaint against the Senate President. She also asked why Akpabio is obstructing opportunities for an unbiased Senate inquiry and avoiding chances to prove his innocence regarding the serious allegations made by his female colleague.

Ezekwesili criticized Akpabio's colleagues in the Senate for supporting such obstruction, which she believes violates the same Senate rules they used to illegally suspend Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan.

She emphasized that the Senate cannot simply move on from this case without addressing the issues of accountability, transparency, and due process regarding what she described as a significant abuse of power by a high-ranking public official. She assured that Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan is not alone in this fight.
