 STATEHOUSE PRESS STATEMENT PRESIDENT TINUBU'S MESSAGE OF CONDOLENCE TO CHIMAMANDA ADICHIE AND HER FAMILY   With a deep sense of grief, I condole with Ms Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, her husband, Dr Ivara Esege, and the entire family on the passing of their son, Nkanu Nnamdi.   As a parent myself who has suffered the loss of a loved one, no grief is as devastating as losing a child.   I empathise with the family at this difficult time, and I mourn this sad loss with them.   Ms Adichie is a literary icon who has brought joy and light to many homes globally, and I pray she and her family find strength in the Almighty in this trying hour.   My prayers are with the family.   Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Federal Republic of Nigeria January 8, 2026

 After 40 years, DSS removes Lanre Arogundade from watchlist


The Nigerian Chapter of the International Press Institute (IPI) says the Department of State Security (DSS) has delisted Lanre Arogundade, the executive director of the International Press Centre (IPC), from its watchlist.

Musikilu Mojeed, president of IPI in Nigeria, announced the development on Tuesday at the 3rd Nigerian Media Leaders’ Summit convened by Journalism Clinic in Ogun state.

Mojeed said Arogundade’s name was removed after about 40 years due to a sustained and intensive campaign by the IPI Nigeria.

He noted that the development was communicated to IPI Nigeria by Adeola Ajayi, director-general (DG) of the DSS, at a recent engagement with the service.

Mojeed said IPI Nigeria commends the DSS for finally removing Arogundade’s name from the watchlist.

Arogundade’s name was added to the DSS watchlist during the Muhammadu Buhari-led military regime when he served as the president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) between 1984 and 1985.

In 2022, it was reported that DSS had delisted Arogundade’s name from its watchlist but was briefly detained at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos on February 10 that year.

There have been several calls for his name to be removed from the service’s watchlist before it was finally taken off.

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”.
