 Guinea-Bissau stops vaccine study funded by Trump administration Guinea-Bissau's foreign minister has said his government has stopped a study funded by the Trump administration aiming to evaluate side effects of the life-saving hepatitis B vaccine, including any links to autism. The West African country, one of the region's poorest, has high rates of hepatitis B, and the prospective study had drawn an outcry from scientists and international health bodies because only half the newborns in the trial would get the vaccine at birth. World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Ghebreyesus said it was not ethical. Guinea-Bissau last month suspended the trial pending an ethical review. Critics had said it was being used to test theories linking vaccines to autism, long promoted by U.S. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr but contradicted by scientific evidence.  House Deputy Speaker Lauds Nigerian Workers, Backs Tinubu’s Wage Reforms


The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has praised Nigerian workers for their resilience and critical contributions to national development. In a statement marking the 2025 International Workers’ Day, Kalu commended the workforce for their steadfast role in driving Nigeria’s progress.


Highlighting the federal government’s commitment to improving workers’ welfare, Kalu noted the National Assembly’s prompt approval of an increased minimum wage under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He described the move as a significant step toward enhancing the livelihoods of civil servants.


Kalu called for patience and support from Nigerians, stressing that the administration’s economic reforms are designed to deliver lasting benefits. He urged workers to unite with the government in addressing national challenges, emphasizing the power of collective effort.
