FCTA Dismisses Claims of Land Allocation to Minister Wike’s Son as Baseless

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has debunked a viral report alleging that FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, allocated 2,082 hectares of land in the upscale areas of Maitama and Asokoro to one of his sons. The administration described the claim as “malicious falsehood” aimed at tarnishing the minister’s reputation.

In a statement issued on Thursday, June 26, 2025, Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media to the Minister, dismissed the report as the work of “quack journalists” peddling fabricated stories. “In Asokoro and Maitama of today, where can the FCT Minister find 2,082 hectares of land to allocate to anyone?” Olayinka questioned, challenging the publishers to provide evidence of their claims.

Olayinka clarified that no land has been allocated to any of Wike’s children, emphasizing that the report is “false and should be disregarded.” He acknowledged the public’s right to hold leaders accountable but stressed the need for fact-based journalism to avoid spreading misinformation.

The aide further clarified that the only documented land allocation referenced in the report was a Right of Occupancy (R-of-O) granted to JOAQ Farms and Estate Limited, a duly registered Nigerian company, for agricultural purposes in Bwari Area Council. “What is wrong with a farmer getting land allocation strictly for agriculture?” Olayinka asked, defending the legitimacy of the allocation.

The FCTA reiterated its commitment to transparency and urged the public to dismiss the baseless allegations, which it described as an attempt to malign Minister Wike.
