Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. INDIA REPORTED AN INCREASE OF 276 ACTIVE COVID-19 CASES ON WEDNESDAY, TAKING THE TOTAL TO 4,302, ACCORDING TO DATA FROM THE MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND FAMILY WELFARE. (PHOTO)

India reported an increase of 276 active COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the total to 4,302, according to data from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

In the past 24 hours, seven deaths were recorded — four in Maharashtra, and one each in Delhi, Tamil Nadu, and Gujarat — bringing the total fatalities in the recent surge to 44.

In response, the central government has launched a nationwide COVID-19 mock drill today (June 5) to assess hospital preparedness. The drill will evaluate key areas like oxygen supply systems, isolation wards, ventilators, and availability of essential medicines, aiming to ensure that states are fully equipped in case of a further spike in infections.

This proactive step comes after high-level review meetings led by DGHS Dr. Sunita Sharma, and follows a smaller drill held on June 2 focusing on medical oxygen infrastructure. Health facilities have been directed to ensure all systems, including PSA plants and LMO tanks, are fully operational and ready.

States like Kerala, Maharashtra, and Delhi continue to report the highest number of cases. With the Indian Meteorological Department forecasting thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in several regions, authorities are on high alert to manage both pandemic and weather-related disruptions.
