Australia bans social media for under-16s in world-first move  Australia has implemented a sweeping ban on social media use for children under 16, marking a world-first move aimed at curbing teenage addiction to platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Under the new rules, social media companies and popular websites face fines of up to AU$49.5 million ($33 million) if they allow underage users to maintain accounts. The government says the measures are necessary to shield children from harmful content, including bullying, sexual material, and online predators. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese emphasized that social media “is often used as a weapon for bullies, a platform for peer pressure, a driver of anxiety, and a tool for online predators.” The law, effective Wednesday, immediately blocks hundreds of thousands of teenagers from accessing the apps they used daily. Platforms affected include Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok, Snapchat, Reddit, Twitch, Kick, Thread...

OUTRAGE AS 12-YEAR-OLD BOY BRUTALLY BEATEN IN GAADI, MAKURDI OVER MOSQUITO NET ALLEGATION

A disturbing case of child abuse has sparked outrage in the Gaadi area along Coca Cola–Gboko Road, where a 12-year-old boy was allegedly brutalized over an accusation involving a damaged mosquito net.

According to eyewitnesses and neighbors who shared the incident with humanitarian advocate D'naked Elder Zege'Orkwande , the young boy was severely beaten after reportedly "disrespecting his uncle" by denying involvement in the tearing of a mosquito net.

“It’s alleged that he was beaten because he disrespected his uncle for not accepting that he was among the children who cut the mosquito net,” neighbors recounted. “Surprisingly, they were beating him and pouring water on him to make sure he suffered the pain severely.”

Orkwande, who described the situation as purely humanitarian is calling for public attention and justice for the young victim. “This is not business. It’s humanitarian work fighting for a 12-year-old boy,” he stated.

Residents of the area are demanding intervention from child protection agencies and relevant authorities, urging an investigation into the incident and holding the perpetrators accountable.
