 A priest in Anambra State wedded a couple yesterday, despite disputes with the bride’s father In a video circulating online, the Reverend Father narrated that The father of the bride who is from Nteje had insisted that the wedding should not take place unless his daughter swøre never to associate with his mother whom he has a quarrel with. The conflict arose from past marriage issues between the father and her mother. Before the wedding, the father repeatedly met with the priest, warning that he had already taken the bride's mother to a deity and that the girl must follow him to the shrine to appease that deity before the marriage can go on. For peace to prevail, the priest advised the couple to comply with all the father’s requests so the wedding could proceed, the priest even donated some of the items that the brides father told her to bring to use in appeasing the deity. Peter Obi Condemns Demolition of Brother’s Property in Lagos, Decries Growing Impunity


Former presidential candidate Peter Obi has condemned the demolition of a property owned by his younger brother’s company in Ikeja, Lagos, describing it as a stark example of “coordinated lawlessness” and a growing culture of impunity in Nigeria.


In a statement posted on social media Tuesday, Obi revealed that he was alerted by his brother, who had returned from Port Harcourt to find the property being demolished by unknown agents. According to Obi, security personnel at the site claimed they were acting on a court judgment but failed to produce any demolition order or official documentation, despite his brother presenting valid claims to the property.


“I rushed to Lagos from Abuja this morning and went straight to the site,” Obi said. “The security personnel claimed there was a court judgment against an unknown person and squatters, but no one was served, and no demolition permit was shown.”


Obi, who waited at the site from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., reported that neither the contractor nor the personnel could identify who authorized the demolition. He described the incident as a troubling reflection of Nigeria’s broader governance crisis, linking it to the country’s declining global human rights rankings.

“This is not just about my family,” Obi stated. “If such impunity can happen to someone with legitimate businesses and documentation, what hope does the average Nigerian have?”


The former Anambra governor, who ran for president under the Labour Party in 2023, highlighted the incident as part of a systemic issue that discourages investment and erodes public trust. He recounted a recent conversation with a businessman who cited Nigeria’s lawlessness as a reason for investing in Ghana, Senegal, and Benin Republic instead.


Obi reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for a “new Nigeria” where the rule of law is upheld, and human rights and property are protected. “As a nation, we must defend the rule of law and ensure a system that protects life and property. A new Nigeria is POssible,” he concluded.
