 Sudan urges displaced citizens abroad to return home Sudan has called on all displaced citizens living abroad to return home, as the government steps up efforts to facilitate voluntary repatriation and remove barriers facing returnees. Prime Minister Kamil Idris said his office is committed to easing the return process and ensuring citizens can actively contribute to rebuilding the country, state media SUNA reports. Speaking during a visit to the Ashkeit border crossing in Wadi Halfa, Idris said authorities have taken steps to eliminate illegal levies and ensure that returning citizens are not subjected to additional fees, compulsory charges or arbitrary customs duties. He noted that such practices had previously placed an unnecessary burden on citizens without benefiting the state. WATERWAY SECURITY: IGP COMMISSIONS 31 NEWLY ACQUIRED OPERATIONAL GUNBOATS.


As IGP Reechoes Commitment to Maritime Safety.


The Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM, today June 5th 2025, commissioned 31 newly acquired operational gun boats for the Force Marine Unit at a ceremony held in Lagos, marking a significant investment in maritime security aimed at enhancing the Unit's capacity to combat crime, protect waterways, and ensure the safety and security of citizens and critical infrastructure within Nigeria's maritime domain.


The IGP was accompanied by senior police officers including the DIG in charge of Operations, DIG Yakubu Kwazi, mni; the AIG Zone 2, AIG Adegoke Fayoade, mni; the AIG PMF, AIG Funsho Adegboye, mni; the AIG SPU, AIG Tunji Rilwan Disu, psc, and the Force Marine Officer, ACP Chima Ogarashi. Other dignitaries present includes government officials of various Maritime agencies, CEO Sensor and Safety Ltd, Chief Oguntade Majekodunmi, who was ably represented by Mr Babalola Tunde and representatives from the Nigeria Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA).


In his remarks, the IGP buttressed that these milestone reflects a strategic response of the Force to the evolving security dynamics in our maritime environment. The deployment of these assets is a symbol of our renewed drive to strengthen our maritime policing architecture, counter emerging threats, reinforce our rescue and patrol operations. The newly commissioned gun boats which are equipped with cutting-edge navigation and communication technologies, comes as follow up to the IGPs assurances on maritime security which he gave during the visit of the CEO Nigerian Shippers Council to the Force Headquarters earlier this week.


The IGP reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to working in collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders to ensure the safety and security of Nigeria's maritime environment, charging officers of the Force Marine Unit to put the gun boats to good use towards combating economic sabotage and ensuring our waterways are safe for smooth port operations .

 How Suspected Phone Snatchers Killed Army Lieutenant In Kaduna  An army officer identified as Lieutenant IM Abubakar has reportedly been hacked to death by a gang that specialises in phone snatching and other crimes. The deceased was killed in the Unguwan Sarki area of Kaduna metropolis during the week. A popular counter-insurgency expert and security analyst in Lake Chad, Zagazola Makama disclosed this in a Twitter post. Makama described Abubakar as a talented officer.  He said, “Lt IM Abubakar(Isa) A Young Talented Army Officer Was Killed By Phone Snatchers on His Way Home In Unguwan Sarki, Kaduna. May his soul rest in peace.”
