‘A father figure to many’ — Peter Obi pays condolence visit to Dantata family in Kano

Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 elections, on Wednesday paid a condolence visit to the family of the late Aminu Dantata, renowned billionaire businessman.

Dantata died on June 28 at the age of 94.

He was granduncle to Aliko Dangote, the richest black man.

Alhassan, Aminu’s father, was the first Nigerian millionaire and one of West Africa’s richest in the early 1900s.

According to Daily Trust, Obi visited Dantata’s residence in Kano and expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the businessman.

He described Dantata’s death as the “end of an era,” noting that his life symbolised humility, philanthropy, and national service.

Obi said the late businessman not only built an empire but also nurtured generations of successful entrepreneurs and contributed immensely to Nigeria’s socioeconomic development.

“We are here today to mourn and condole with the immediate family and all of us, because this is a loss that touches the entire nation,” he said.

“Alhaji Aminu Dantata was not just a successful businessman—he built other successful people. He cared for everyone and was a father figure to many.”

Obi prayed for the repose of the late Dantata’s soul and for God to continue to bless his family.

“He lived an exemplary life, investing not only in business but in people. His legacy will continue to inspire us all. May God continue to bless this great family and bless Nigeria,” he said.
