ANGLICAN CHURCH OUTLINES PROTOCOLS FOR POLITICAL GUESTS

The Church of Nigeria, Anglican Communion, has issued official guidelines for receiving political guests in the church during church services and programmes.

The Primate of the Church of Nigeria, The Most Revd Dr Henry Ndukuba, listed a set of protocols that include how guests are to be conducted in the church.

The Church made it clear that henceforth, the church pulpit shall not be acceded to guests to air political views and agendas. This is to safeguard the political neutrality of the Church.

Government officials and potential politicians must discuss their mission for coming to church with the leadership before they are allowed to address the congregation.

The Church is also cautioned against making statements that may be construed as supporting a political candidate or government agenda in any form.

Public officials or popular figures may no longer be allowed to use the church lectern to address the congregation, and church officials are discouraged from eulogizing or exalting guests in a manner unbecoming of the Body of Christ.
