Antipsychotic medications and suicide note discovered in NYC mass shooter’s apartment
Antipsychotic medication and a suicide note addressed to his parents were discovered in the apartment of the gunman responsible for the mass shooting in Manhattan earlier this week.
Investigators searched Shane Tamura’s Las Vegas studio apartment and recovered several medications, 100 rounds of 9mm ammunition, a tripod for the rifle used in the attack, and an empty handgun box. Prescription bottles for antipsychotic, antiepileptic, and anti-inflammatory drugs were also found.
Tamura, 27, left a suicide note expressing sorrow to his parents, including the words, “I love you, mama. I’m sorry.” The note also mentioned a man named Rick, identified as Tamura’s supervisor at the Horseshoe Las Vegas, where he worked as a security officer. The note included an apology to Rick.
Rick, who sold Tamura the AR-15 assault rifle used in the shooting for $1,400 and also sold him the BMW Tamura drove from Nevada to New York, has not been charged.
The shooting occurred around 7 p.m. Monday in the lobby and on the 33rd floor of a Park Avenue skyscraper housing offices for the NFL, Blackstone, and Rudin Management. Four people were killed: NYPD officer Didarul Islam, Blackstone executive Wesley LePatner, security guard Aland Etienne, and Julia Hyman. NFL employee Craig Clementi was injured.
Tamura, a former high school football player from Las Vegas, shot himself in the chest and died at the scene. Authorities recovered three suicide notes in which Tamura blamed the NFL for a brain injury. One of the handwritten notes was found folded inside his wallet, written on planner-style paper featuring sections titled “My Daily Affirmations” and “Plan, Pause, Reflect, and Flourish.”
