Asisat Oshoala Debunks Retirement Rumours After Super Falcons’ WAFCON Triumph

Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has dismissed rumours suggesting she has retired from international football, calling the speculation baseless. Speaking to reporters in Morocco following Nigeria’s thrilling 3-2 victory over the host nation in the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) final, the six-time African Player of the Year reaffirmed her commitment to the national team.

“I don’t know where that came from, but agenda must agend. I get it, but I’m not bothered. I’m still here. I’m still playing. I’m still doing my job. That’s what I’m focused on,” Oshoala stated.

The 30-year-old, who was part of Nigeria’s 23-player squad for the tournament, played a key supporting role throughout the competition. Oshoala’s illustrious international career began in 2013, with a standout performance at the 2014 U-20 Women’s World Cup and a pivotal role in Nigeria’s African Women’s Championship victory that year. She made history as the first African to score in three consecutive FIFA Women’s World Cups and now holds four WAFCON titles (2014, 2016, 2018, and 2024).

Oshoala’s latest comments and her contributions to Nigeria’s recent triumph underscore her enduring status as a defining figure in African and Nigerian football.
