Buhari Could Have Survived If Treated Here — ABUAD Hospital CMD

The Chief Medical Director of Afe Babalola University Multi-System Hospital (AMSH), Dr. Akinola Akinmade, has made a bold claim that former President Muhammadu Buhari might still be alive today if he had received treatment at the institution’s advanced medical facility.

Speaking to journalists over the weekend in Ado-Ekiti, Dr. Akinmade expressed deep concern over Nigeria’s lingering dependency on medical tourism, especially by political elites and affluent citizens. He emphasized that it is time for the government to prioritize and invest in world-class health infrastructure within the country.

“With the level of equipment, expertise, and international-standard care available at ABUAD Hospital, we are confident that we could have sustained the former President’s health and prolonged his life,” he said.

Describing the hospital as the best-equipped in Sub-Saharan Africa, the CMD highlighted its cutting-edge technology, highly trained clinicians, and its growing reputation as a hub for cross-border medical excellence.

The remarks have sparked renewed calls for reform in Nigeria’s healthcare system and a shift toward strengthening local medical institutions.
