 A Mother's Day Nightmare in Princeton, Illinois. A 3-year-old boy was struck by gunfire as police burst into a barricaded room, ending a frightening hostage situation. Multiple agencies responded to the Hummingbird Mobile Home Park in Princeton, Illinois, on Sunday, May 10th at 2:42 a.m. The initial call went out as a domestic disturbance but officers discovered much worse.  42-year-old, Anthony Rodriguez, had barricaded himself in a room armed with a knife. Anthony had taken several people as hostages, including Aurora Almanza and her 3-year-old son.  Multiple agencies were on the scene, including the Bureau County Sheriff's Office, Illinois State Police and  the Princeton Police Department.  Authorities attempted to negotiate but ultimately rushed the room when they heard screaming coming from inside.  Officials have reported that officers fired shots as they entered the room.  Kaduna State University Breaks New Ground, Holds First-Ever Virtual PhD Defence In History And Strategic Studies


The Department of History and Strategic Studies, under the Faculty of Arts, College of Education, Humanities and Law, Kaduna State University (KASU), successfully conducted its first-ever virtual PhD external defence on Tuesday, 1st July 2025.


The historic event was held at the Digital Resource Centre of the university. It marked a significant milestone in the department's academic advancement, particularly in the use of technology to facilitate higher education research and evaluation.


The PhD candidate, Sunday M. Adebayo Aloko presented and defended his thesis titled:

"Pentecostalism in Kaduna Metropolis: A Study of Its Impacts and Challenges, 1970–2020."


The session was graced by a panel of distinguished supervisors from the department, including Prof. T. Wuam, Prof. A. M. Ashafa, and Prof. Dickson M. Dyaji.


Also in attendance was the Head of Department, Dr. Suleiman Shehu, the Postgraduate Coordinator, Dr. Ibrahim Danmaraya, alongside other postgraduate students and researchers who joined the session virtually from various locations.


The defense was presided over and assessed by the external examiner, Dr. John Ebute Agba, from the Department of History at Benue State University, Makurdi.


The successful conduct of the virtual defence reflects KASU's growing commitment to Marching to Excellence, Embracing Emerging Technologies, Upskilling and Reskilling, and support for postgraduate research, even in evolving educational environments.
