LPPC Elevates 57 Legal Practitioners to Senior Advocate of Nigeria Rank

The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC), chaired by Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has approved the elevation of 57 legal practitioners to the prestigious rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) during its 169th plenary session held today in Abuja. The new SANs include 56 advocate appointees and one academic appointee, Prof. Chima Josephat Ubanyionwu.

Among the conferees are only two female legal practitioners: Mrs. Oyinkan Badejo-Okusanya, Chairman of the NBA 2024 Annual General Conference Planning Committee, and Mrs. Chinyere Ekene Moneme. Notable names on the list include Ikechukwu Uwanna, Attorney General of Abia State and former NBA Lagos branch Chairman; Labaran Magaji, immediate past Attorney General of Nasarawa State and current Secretary to the State Government; and Oluwole Jimi-Bada, Attorney General of Osun State.

The LPPC stated that the SAN rank is conferred as “a mark of professional excellence upon legal practitioners who have demonstrated exceptional distinction either as advocates in the courts or as academics contributing significantly to the development of legal scholarship.” The committee also reviewed three petitions against certain applicants, all of which were dismissed for lacking merit.

The 57 new SANs are required to complete a mandatory Pre-Swearing-In Induction Programme, as directed by the Body of Senior Advocates of Nigeria (BOSAN). The swearing-in ceremony, presided over by Justice Kekere-Ekun, is scheduled for Monday, September 29, 2025.

The full list of new SANs includes prominent legal practitioners such as Akintunde Wilson Adewale, Preye Agedah, Omamuzo Erebe, Hannibal Egbe Uwaifo, Olumide Ekisola, and others, reflecting a diverse group recognized for their contributions to Nigeria’s legal landscape.
