NUT Protest : Wike Warns Against Politicising Insecurity The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has warned against politicising insecurity amid protests by the Nigeria Union of Teachers, FCT wing, over the killing and abduction of school staff and children in Oyo State. Teachers stormed the FCTA Secretariat in Abuja to condemn the killing of Michael Oyedokun and to demand the release of abducted pupils and teachers from Community High School, Ahoro-Esinle in Oriire Local Government Area.  Labour Party Crisis Deepens as Abure Accuses Peter Obi of Desperation and Betrayal

The factional National Chairman of the Labour Party, Julius Abure, has launched a scathing attack on the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of creating internal crises and being overly desperate to lead Nigeria. In a personally signed statement issued on Thursday, Abure alleged that Obi’s ambition to control the party has spiraled out of control.

Abure claimed that Obi, a former Anambra State governor, benefited from significant goodwill from the Labour Party leadership but has repaid it with betrayal. “This is why we have maintained that Peter Obi lacks the competence, character, and capacity to actualize the vision of a new Nigeria,” Abure stated. He further accused Obi of instigating the ongoing crisis within the party, which Obi has cited as a reason for supporters to abandon the Labour Party.

The remarks come in response to Obi’s recent directive urging his supporters to back candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the upcoming August 16 by-elections across several states. Abure’s statement highlights deepening divisions within the Labour Party, raising concerns about its unity and electoral prospects as the by-elections approach.
