LSWMO SEALS RESIDENTIAL PROPERTY AT ABULE EGBA, LEKKI ETI-OSA  FOR ENVIRONMENTAL NUISANCE

The Lagos State Wastewater Management Office (LSWMO) has continued to demonstrate its dedication to ensuring credible and sustainable wastewater management in the State by responding to public outcry in pursuit of a safe and cleaner Lagos by clamping down on residential apartments at 11 Victoria Onipede Street, Abule Egba, and 2 Tunde Fisayo Street, Lekki Eti-osa.

These Residential houses were sealed for deliberate discharge of raw sewage into public drains via pumping machines, thereby causing public nuisance and environmental pollution while endangering the lives of citizens of the State.

The General Manager of the Agency, Engr. Adefemi Afolabi said the perpetrators are in the habit of committing this illegality instead of engaging accredited sewage dislodgers to evacuate their septic tank.

According to him, the act exposes the citizens of the State to communicable diseases and also pollutes the environment. He pointed out that the Enforcement and Compliance Officers of the agency took time to investigate the property and took pictures of the inappropriate and unacceptable behaviour as verifiable evidence before the clampdown.

While emphasising that the State has zero tolerance for environmental pollution and degradation, Engr. Afolabi advised that residents should embrace proper wastewater management and hygiene practices to ensure a safer, cleaner and hygienic environment in Lagos State.

The General Manager maintained that properties and facilities in the State that fall foul of the law will continue to be sanctioned in line with the provisions of the Lagos State Environmental Management and Protection Law 2017.

He appealed to citizens of the State to continue to reach out to the office whenever they see anyone indulging or committing an environmental nuisance that can affect the health and well-being of the State to contact the office through their official line 08022022397, 07025332163, or the social media handles.
