Dutch referee Rob Dieperink dies weeks after removal from World Cup officiating list Dutch referee Rob Dieperink has died at the age of 38, weeks after FIFA removed him from its list of officials for the World Cup. The Dutch Football Association (KNVB) confirmed his death in a statement, saying it was “shocked and deeply saddened” by the news. His cause of death has not been disclosed. Dieperink was arrested in April by the Metropolitan Police in the United Kingdom following a report of an alleged sexual assault involving a teenage boy in London. South Korea reports North Korea has started taking down some border loudspeakers

South Korea’s military reported Saturday that it detected North Korean forces dismantling some propaganda loudspeakers aimed at the South along parts of the border, mirroring similar actions taken by Seoul.

This marks the first time South Korea has confirmed such moves since President Lee Jae Myung took office two months ago and South Korea began removing its own loudspeakers. The military said more verification is needed to determine if the dismantling is happening across the entire border and pledged to continue monitoring the situation.

In an effort to reduce tensions with Pyongyang, Lee’s liberal administration, which replaced a conservative government, halted propaganda broadcasts criticizing North Korea shortly after Lee assumed office. On Monday, South Korean officials started removing loudspeakers broadcasting anti-North messages along the border as part of Lee’s push to revive dialogue between the two longtime rivals.

The Koreas remain technically at war after the 1950-53 conflict ended in an armistice, and relations have worsened in recent years. Both sides have used cross-border loudspeaker propaganda as a tool, depending on the state of their relations over time.
